A smartphone is a great invention in the history of technology. It started from a big bulky telephone and eventually evolved into the device we use today.
Smartphones changed the way we live our lives and the connectivity to the internet just boosted this approach. We are now living in a world where we think less and let our smartphones do our work. Even to do a simple calculation, we have to rely on our phone’s calculator app.we get everything available on the internet. Of course, it eases our work but it is also encouraging us to rely on this tiny device. Do you know how much you use your phone? Do you know how it affects you and your body?
Here are some points about how smartphone affects our lives.
1]Prone to Insomnia
We use smartphones to do many things like social media, playing games, reading articles etc. There is much research that concludes that using your phone before bed affects greatly to your sleep. The blue light emitting from the display has great impact and lasting effect on your sleep. Also, the distractions from social media also contribute to sleep thus leading to disorders like insomnia.
2]Its addictive nature.
The smartphone industry is still an evolving industry. We get to use the new features which are available on our phone. The mobile gaming industry is also evolving which is leading to people using their phones for long hours. Smartphones target our Curious human nature which let us stuck to the screen for longer than we want.
3]It has a huge negative impact on friendships.
Nowadays people are interested in talking to their friends on social media rather than talking face to face. Such behaviour has a lasting negative impact on the friendship as it reduces contact and meeting.
4]It affects parents greatly in parenting.
Parenting is already a tough challenge for people. Children want attention to themselves and if a parent is more interested in talking to other online people, Taking pictures and just stuck to the screen and ignoring the child then it can have a very negative impact on the child as he/she feels neglected by their own parents.
5]It is replacing Person to person communication and conflicts.
Due to the addictiveness and comfort of talking via texting on your smartphone, people have developed a tendency to use it more often even for the things that should have been done in-person to a person’s face to face in the first place. Instead of doing that people now choose to end a relationship via a message on a phone and also the heated debates are done on the phone.
6]Social media has made people egoistic and lose self-worth.
I have read about many cases in which the person who use social media a lot and one time he/she doesn’t get the expected likes on his particular post so he /she decided to commit suicide. Recently a tik tok user has also done the same thing because he didn’t get enough likes to satisfy his mind. Due to this type of mindset, these people weigh their social presence more rather than their actual self and their life.
7]It can take a toll on the relationship
Most of the relationship are because they like to be in the company of each other and If the partner is on a date and if he/she uses the phone all time then it will have a negative impact on the other partner. It will make him/her feel less important and it will lead to eventual breakups and the other person will then choose someone who gives her attention. I am saying this with experience. It really affects the relationship.
There have been many studies conducted and have proved that reading on a digital device is actually less efficient than reading on actual paper.
Such reports encourage us to take this type of issues into consideration and to take appropriate steps to reduce this. Of course, brands have been doing many things to encourage us to have a healthy digital well-being. But it depends on the person itself what he/she wants to do and how he/she wants to spend their life.
There are many points that I have left out but I have just highlighted some. Hope this will help.
